This versus official GitHub For Windows client?

Now that GitHub has released a full official Windows client (GitHub For Windows) that can directly control source in a Visual Studio project folder, what does this project (Git Source Control Provider) provide that the official Git client doesn't?

I suppose I'm asking... would I benefit from installing this project if I've already got the official Windows Git client?

I'm confused (and ignorant!).

Hi alano999,

There are quite a few Windows Git clients, including GitHub for Windows. Each of them has unique features. This project integrates Git functions into Visual Studio. You can see the file status and perform commit within Visual Studio. It has also an interesting way to View Commit Log/History that you would not find in other projects.

Thanks yysun, your explanation is extremely helpful. I'll give Git SCP a try once I have the basic development environment set up on my new PC.

Kind regards,
Alan
